A shop counter with a phone, a barcode and a printed bill
A general store in Kolar. One phone at the counter, one printer, one helper.

Two

A small shop, from the shutter going up to the shutter coming down

A general store selling a few hundred things, where the price is on the packet and the queue is longest between six and eight.

  1. Morning. The phone opens straight onto the till. Nothing to load and nobody to sign in again, because it stays signed in.
  2. The first customer. Scan the barcode, the price comes up, the stock goes down by one. Three more items, then Paid. The bill is printed or shown as a QR the customer scans to keep it.
  3. The network drops. Nothing changes. Every sale is written to the phone first, and sent up when the signal comes back. You will not know it happened.
  4. The regular who pays on Friday. Tap Credit instead of Paid and put his name on it. It sits under Credit until he settles.
  5. The helper takes over. He signs in with the shop code and his own four digit PIN. He can sell. He cannot change a price or see what the shop took.
  6. Closing. Open My Shop. The day is already added up, split by cash and UPI, with what sold most at the top.

Your day ends when you say it does. A shop day starts at four in the morning. So a sale at one at night still counts for the night before. That is where you would have written it yourself.
